Abstract
In this report, we introduced the magnitude and trends of foreign-born cases with tuberculosis (TB) according to the national TB control policy for foreigners residing in Korea, and analysed the results of a latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) screening pilot project in 2018. The number of reported foreign-born new TB cases has decreased from 2,123 in 2016 to 1,398 in 2018 because of the strengthened foreign-born TB control policy since 2016. In 2018, the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (KCDC) implemented a pilot project of LTBI screening for foreign-born residents¡¯ health examination in Gyeonggi province. A total of 8,811 foreign-born examinees underwent the interferon gamma release assay (IGRA) test and among them, 2,510 (28.5%) were classified as a positivity of LTBI. To enhance the TB screening for foreignborn residents in Korea, the KCDC is planed to further extend this pilot project to Seoul in 2019.
